City Orthodontics is a Toronto and North York orthodontics practice where Drs. Pablo Kimos and Willy Dayan provide exceptional, individualized orthodontic care to patients of all ages using the best options for straightening teeth. As our patient, you can expect to receive the high quality orthodontic treatment and personalized attention you deserve.
Our practice encourages parents and caregivers to bring their children into our office for their first orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven. This first visit does not necessarily mean that your child will need to start orthodontic treatment right away. However, it does give our doctors the opportunity to detect facial growth and dental development issues that can be begin around this time.
Comprehensive Orthodontic Care in the Greater Toronto Area
Both the Canadian and American Association of Orthodontists recommend that children be seen by an orthodontist for the first time by the age of seven. Our practice agrees wholeheartedly with this recommendation as this is when a child’s first molars typically erupt to establish the back bite. During this time, an orthodontist can evaluate the front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships. This timely screening increases your child’s chances for a life-long, straight, healthy and attractive smile.
Often times, we recommend early interceptive treatment if we find problems with the development of the jaws or teeth. Early treatment can prevent some problems from developing that can be too late to treat once all the permanent teeth have come in.
How Will My Child Benefit from
An Early Orthodontic Evaluation?
At City Orthodontics, we believe that early evaluations provide the best opportunity for the timely detection of problems and the greatest opportunity for successful treatment. There are certain jaw growth issues that have a limited window of opportunity to be treated, which requires that they are detected early on before that opportunity ends. In many cases, these issues cannot be treated successfully when all the permanent teeth have come in at around the age of 12. If we determine that intervention is not necessary, we will still monitor your child’s growth and development so we can begin treatment at the most optimal time.
What Advantages are Associated
with Interceptive Treatment?
The many advantages of interceptive orthodontic treatment include:
- Can create ample room for crowded, erupting teeth
- Can create facial symmetry by influencing how the jaw grows
- Can reduce the risk of trauma to front teeth which protrude
- Can reduce the need to remove healthy teeth
- Can preserve space for unerupted teeth
- Can shorten treatment time spent wearing braces
Who Makes a Good Candidate
for Early Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontists routinely treat patients of all ages with malocclusions or “bad bites.” A malocclusion is the result of a misaligned jaw or teeth. A malocclusion can affect the appearance of your smile as well as the way you clean your teeth and gums, chew food, and how your teeth wear down.
Only your orthodontist can tell you if you or your child is a good candidate for orthodontic treatment after conducting a thorough examination. However, people with common malocclusions such as those with overbites, underbites, crossbites, gaps between their teeth and crowded teeth often make good candidates for orthodontic treatment.
